Esto Vir Parish Captain Description

“ Challenging men to live extraordinary faith and leadership in everyday life.”

This is the mission of Esto Vir, a mission that not only challenges our own personal approach to life, but one that asks us to bear witness and call other men to do the same. The men we can most likely influence in this way and help grow in their faith are those men in our own families, in our own parishes and in our work places. Those who sense the call to do so are the type of men we are looking to become Esto Vir Parish Captains. The role of Esto Vir Parish Captain is an important component in the mission of our apostolate. Our mission is primarily accomplished through our annual men’s conference and the other activities coordinated throughout the year. By nature, men respond to personal invitation, a “tapping on the shoulder” by someone they know. The primary responsibility of a Parish Captain is to inform the men (and women) in their parish of upcoming Esto Vir activities and events. Our goal is to have at least one Parish Captain at every parish in the diocese.

The specific tasks of a Parish Captain include:

  • Promoting the annual men’s conference through personal invites, bulletin announcements, distribution of conference flyers, announcements at the end of mass, etc. Examples of each of these can be provided to you. Accomplishing these activities with the cooperation of your pastor is the ideal situation.
  • Assist with specific needs at the time of the conference. A sign-up for these is generally routed prior to the conference.
  • Communicate other events promoted by Esto Vir. These may be programs developed by Esto Vir or may be programs developed by the diocese or individual parishes that work towards our mission.
  • Let us know about activities in your parish that work towards our mission. Through other Parish Captains and our database of conference attendees, we can help promote these activities.
  • Identify other men in your parish who would make a great Parish Captain. The larger the army we have, the more men we can reach!
  • Work with your parish priests and develop a relationship with them.
  • Pray for the success of Esto Vir promoted activities and for the conversion of men’s hearts. Pray yourself, with your family or with your parish, but always pray for the intervention of the Holy Spirit.

If you have any questions about your role as a Parish Captain, feel free to give us a call at 920.347.2950 or email us by clicking here.
